George “Leon” Holdren, 78, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024. He was a son of the late Ira Anderson Haldren and Laura Brown Haldren. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his step-mother, Elva Blankenship Haldren; a brother, Douglas Wayne Haldren; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy Haldren Webber (Albert); a nephew, Andy Haldren; ex-wife, Diane E. Holdren.
Leon retired from the Fred Whitaker Company after 44 years. He was an active member of the Vinton Moose Lodge. Leon enjoyed spending time with his daughter and grandchildren.
Surviving are his daughter, Heather Lynn Holdren; step-son, Larry Wayne Hubbard; brother, Harold Anderson Haldren (Louise); grandchildren, Ira and Ava Holdren and Chelsie Hubbard; sister-in-law, Annie Stevens Haldren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm, Thursday, March 21, at Lotz Funeral Home, 305 E. Washington, Ave., Vinton. A celebration of Leon’s life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 22, 2024 at Lotz Funeral Home-Vinton with Pastor Willie Ratliff officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery-Vinton.
