The Life of Wesley L Cook

Wesley Lee Cook, 84, of Vinton, Va., peacefully joined his Lord and Savior in Heaven on Saturday evening, March 16, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born on January 10, 1940, in Roanoke, Va., to the late James and Ruth Cook. He was also predeceased by his brother, Earl Cook and sister, Linda Hogan. His childhood sweetheart and loving wife of 53 years, Judy, was there to greet him at the gates of Heaven.

Wes will be missed and cherished in memories by his son, Tom (Atia) and Mike (Janie); his grandchildren, Whitney, Spencer, and Trenton; his baby sister, Gail Wright (Larry); along with his nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Wes retired from General Electric after 38 years as a Senior Technical Specialist Engineer. He graduated from Jefferson High School, attended Virginia Western and Roanoke College to get ahead and excel in his career with General Electric.

Wes was a great provider. Dad made sure you had all you needed to make life a little easier for yourself. He showed his love by being there for you when life got difficult. Wes was always there to provide and lend a helping hand. He attended Lighthouse Bible Church for the past several years and very much enjoyed being with his church family on Sundays.

Over the years, Dad enjoyed going to yard sales and antiquing. He was always looking for a deal he could turn into profit in one of his many antique booths held in the area. On nice weekends you could find him on Smith Mountain Lake enjoying a slow ride on his pontoon boat.

A special thanks goes out to the nurses on the 8th and 10th floors of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital  for the attention and care administered to Dad under their supervision. We would also like to thank  the employees, Donna and Mary Lou of Gentle Shepherd Hospice, for their guidance and support through this difficult time.

“Dad will be missed by those who grew to know and love him. His easy-going, kind nature made him a pleasure to be around.”

The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel with Pastor Jay Richards of Lighthouse Bible Church officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Burial Park.
