The Life of Mrs. Karen E. Fleeger

Karen Brooks Fleeger, age 70, passed away peacefully in her Dover, Pennsylvania home on March 1, 2024, surrounded by her family. Born on February 22nd 1954 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the eldest daughter of John and Maxine Walker Brooks. Growing up, she enjoyed dance and music lessons, participating in several school musicals. After graduating, Karen explored the world as a military wife, living in Florida, Texas, Virginia, and even Germany. Settling in Dillsburg and later Dover, Karen continued her exploring nature by mastering many hobbies and interests: she had a tremendous green thumb, where you could usually find her tending to her gardens, and was a member of the local Garden Club. She was constantly crocheting beautiful blankets, scarfs, and other gifts for her family and friends, and was an avid baker who was famously known for her Toll House pies. A giving soul, her hobbies centered around creations that she could gift to others to spread joy. As such, Christmas was her favorite holiday, and commonly began planning and buying gifts months in advance!

Family time and traditions were important to Karen: she loved Sunday game nights and celebrating all milestones. A wizard at Jeopardy, lover of the color purple, and collector of all things pansies and gingerbread, Karen was a mother and sister above all else, and enjoyed experiencing all life had to offer with her family at her side.

Karen's life and legacy is carried on through her three children: Sean Fleeger, Erika Benner, and Katie Righter, their partners, and many wonderful grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Two sisters cherish her memory: Melanie Green of Dover, PA and Melissa Mahan of Butler, PA. She is also missed by her loving aunt, Cheryl Hilliard of Butler, PA.

Visitation will be at 2pm with Services at 3pm on Saturday, March 9th 2024 at her church, New Creation Community Church, 3005 Emig Mill Road, Dover PA. Memories and condolences may be shared at the Keffer Funeral Home website. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the York County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, https://ycspca.org.
