The Life of Pauline Elizabeth Lane Dolby

Pauline E. Lane Dolby was born on December 13, 1921 in Raleigh, North Carolina to Elizabeth J. Penny and Paul Cecil Lane.  Pauline passed away on December 19, 2023 at the age 102 of natural causes.  She was a life time member of First Baptist Church of Raleigh,  where she was baptized by the late Reverend C. Bullock.  She was an honor student at Washington High School.  Shortly following her education, she met Norman Augustus Dolby, and they were married and had four boys. 

She was preceded in death by husband Norman and sons David, Cecil, and Alfred. She is survived by youngest son Michael and wife Gloria of Houston, Texas and Special Daughter Camila Ann Alston, Daughter in Laws Demeterias Dolby of Charlotte, JoAnn Dolby of Raleigh, Paul (nephew) and Naomi Alston, of Raleigh, nephews James, Jimmy, George, and Willie Woodard, nieces Bettie Branch, Linda and Hollis Woodard, Wanda Pena; 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Pauline enjoyed reading, cooking, shopping and spending time with family.  She loved attending church every Sunday, which was the highlight of her week, and was notorious for wearing big beautiful hats.  She also loved football and the only team she enjoyed watching was the Dallas Cowboys.

Mother Dolby was given the nick name “Sarge”, from her now deceased son Alfred, because of her strict discipline.  Her boys knew she loved them dearly but she had to make sure they understood who was in charge.  Through it all, they turned out to be upstanding men, who made her very proud.

The family would like to acknowledge the staff and family members for their loving care of Mother during her stay at Rex Rehabilitation Center.

A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 11:30 AM  on Friday December 29, 2023 at First Baptist Church, 101 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC preceded  by an 11:00 AM visitation.  Interment will follow the service at Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
