The Life of Richard W. Kienle

Richard William Kienle of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas E. and Marcia S. Kienle, and his daughter, Hunter Draper.

Richard is survived by his wife, Betty Lou; his daughters, Crozier Moore (Tracy) and Tayloe Piggott; grandsons, Hunter Piggott and Richard Moore; granddaughter, Ryann Moore; brother-in-law, Gordon S. Hunter; and many devoted nieces and nephews.

When Dick married Betty Lou, her family became his family, and her daughters became the daughters of his heart.

Richard received his undergraduate degree from Duke University and his Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina Law School. He was employed as Commerce Counsel by the New York Central Railroad from 1963 until 1968. Richard then transferred to Norfolk Western Railway in 1968 and to Norfolk Southern Corporation advancing to General Solicitor.

Dick was a man of few words with a large presence and distinct personality.

The family wishes to thank the medical teams that cared for him.

A Graveside Service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Evergreen Burial Park. Following the burial there will be a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
