The Life of Bernard "Bernie" A. West

Bernard A. West, 87, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024.

He was a member of Harvest Ministries. Bernard retired from Overnite Transportation with more than 25 years of service. He also served in The United States Army. Bernard was a volunteer at the VA Health Center and a member of VFW Post #1841.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Doss West; his son, Bernard Lee West; and his brothers and sisters.

Surviving is his daughter, Donna Dunbar of Fincastle; son, Edward West and wife, Diana; grandchildren, Leslie Dunbar Jr., and wife, Christine, Brian Dunbar Sr., Chelsea Gilliam and husband, Evan; and his great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Gentiva Hospice; special nurse, Jeremy; Carrington Place; his favorite nurse, Becca; and special friend, Polk Johnson; for their care and compassion.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Oakey’s South Chapel. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Oakey’s South Chapel with Pastor Milton Atkins officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Burial Park.
