Charles M. Burdette

NOVEMBER 25, 1930 – DECEMBER 2, 2023
Charles M. Burdette, age 93, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023.

Chuck was born in Jacksonville, Illinois, to Cora Fay Haneline and Kenneth Manson Burdette and grew up in Olathe Kansas. Chuck graduated from St. John Memorial High School in Olathe in 1948. He served in the Air Force and later graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, MO in 1954. He married Ann Cleaver on May 29, 1954. They divorced in 1981 but always remained friends.

Chuck earned a Juris Doctor in law from the University of Missouri in Kansas City in June 1960 and spent his career as a corporate construction lawyer for Peter Kiewit, Dillingham Corporation and J.A. Jones. His career moved him to various locations including Kansas City, Omaha, Danville CA, Honolulu and Charlotte NC where he retired in 2008. Chuck loved playing sports particularly golf, tennis and basketball which he played well into his seventies.

His 80th birthday gift from his sons was a trip to Firestone Country Club to stay and play on “the course that Jack built”. Chuck’s greatest passion was flying airplanes. He owned three planes over his life and deeply missed being a pilot once he could no longer fly. Chuck moved back to Kansas City to be closer to family in 2021 and died from complications of Alzheimer’s one week past his 93rd birthday. A private service will be held in 2024. He is survived by his sons, Duncan (Kathy) and Stuart (Shanlee), five grandchildren, his sister-in-law Cheryl Burdette, and two nieces, Evin Wood and Laura Green.
