The Life of Mr. Donald R. Goodling

Donald R. Goodling, 98, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at his residence. He was the husband of Betty L. (Mowrer) Goodling to whom he was married for 76 years.

A Memorial Service will take place at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., in York, on Monday, November 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Paul Guiliano officiating the service. There will be a visitation prior from 10-11:00 AM. A Graveside Service will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in York with Military Honors performed by York County Veterans Honor Guard.

In addition to his wife Betty, Mr. Goodling is survived by a son, Michael Goodling and his companion Deb Schuman; two granddaughters Becky Goodling and her companion Brent Penman, Abby Stauffer and her husband Kyle Stauffer; one great-grandchild Oakley Stauffer; a step-sister Nancy Taylor and her husband Jeff and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by two brothers, James Goodling and Robert Goodling.

Born November 25, 1924 in York, he was a son of the late Morgan R. Goodling and Helen V. (Keeney) Goodling.

After graduating from William Penn Senior High School, Mr. Goodling joined the United States Army where he served for three years during World War II. After his service to our country, he began a career at Connolly’s Paint Store where he worked until his retirement in 1990. Aside from work, Donald was a member of Paradise (Holtzschwamm) E.C.C. and a lifetime member of Viking Athletic Association. In his free time, Mr. Goodling enjoyed traveling to Gettysburg to explore Civil War history, painting landscapes, listening to 40’s and 50’s music and is remembered for building dollhouses and other toys for his two granddaughters when they were children.
