Paul Henry Bibighaus, known affectionately by his close friends as Big One, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2023, in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Born in Philadelphia, Paul was the devoted son of the late Henry C. Bibighaus and Ruth G. Bibighaus-Thielking (nee Barker). Known for his keen insight on life’s experiences, handy skills, and strong work ethic, Paul left a significant mark on all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A proud Southwest Philadelphian, Paul was a 1960 graduate of John Bartrum High School, but also ran with West Catholic High School friends from his neighborhood and was a regular at the annual “Burrs on the Beach” reunion held at the Jersey shore each year.   

Paul’s work history began in his teens when he joined the Philadelphia School District as a summer maintenance worker. His service took a detour after graduating high school when he enlisted in the United States Army, serving honorably as an MP in Germany for two years. He was very fond of Germany and took the opportunity to travel when on leave through much of Europe.  After being honorably discharged, he returned stateside and utilized his GI Bill benefits to attend Temple University. where he earned his Teaching Credential. His scholarly achievements laid a solid foundation for a long and fulfilling career.  This led him to become a beloved Woodshop instructor for the Philadelphia School District. His dedication and hard work saw him rise through the ranks to become the District Engineer, for multiple Philadelphia School facilities. After 33+ years of dedicated service, Paul retired at the young age of 48. He continued post-retirement work for a few years at Inglis House until he decided to move to the Endless Mountains of Meshoppen, PA.  Away from his professional life, Paul was a man who appreciated the simple pleasures of life. Living in a log home in the woods, he was an avid hunter who found solace in the serenity of nature. He enjoyed entertaining company and relaxing with a good Martini was one of his favorite pastimes, a testament to his refined taste.

Paul was the beloved father of Brian P. Bibighaus and his wife, Anna M. of Santa Cruz, CA, and Mary E. Chown (nee Bibighaus) and her husband Greg of Mohnton, PA. He was the cherished grandfather of Ava E., Maura R., and Andrew P. Bibighaus, Michaela Rizzo and her husband, Alex Zambrana, Noah Rizzo, and Alexander Chown. Paul was also the proud great-grandfather of Sylas Zambrana. His family will miss his wisdom, guidance, and loving nature, but they will continue to uphold his legacy.

Paul's life was an embodiment of service, hard work, and love for family. He was a man who lived life on his own terms, always striving for excellence and leaving a lasting impact on the lives of those he touched. His memory will forever remain etched in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate a life well-lived, cherishing the many wonderful moments shared with him.

Paul Henry Bibighaus, a man of intelligence and interest, a master of his craft and a lover of life and nature, will be deeply missed. His legacy will live on through his family and the countless lives he touched throughout his journey. His story serves as a reminder to us all of the power of dedication, the importance of family, and the joy of living life to its fullest.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation on Saturday, August 26th, 2023 from 9:30 to 10:15am  in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 3500 School Lane, Drexel Hill, PA 19026. Funeral Mass will following in the church at 10:30am. Paul will be laid to rest with his family in Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill.
