The Life of Mrs. Gertrude A. Firestone

Gertrude L. McFadden Firestone, 87, was called home to the Lord on Friday, December 12, 2008. She was the wife of the late James Russell Firestone, Sr.

Born July 29, 1921, in New Haven, Conn., a daughter of the late William and Edith (Vaughn) McFadden, she retired from the York City School District in 1984. She was an active member of Saint Luke’s United Methodist Church in York and took pride in her gardening.

Mrs. Firestone is survived by a sister, Edith Kauffman, who resides in Florida; and two sons and one daughter, James Firestone and his wife, Bonnie, of Hellam, Timothy Firestone of Manchester, and Edith Firestone of York. She was blessed with seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, who all called her mam-maw. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Jody Fink; a granddaughter, Holly Ehrhart; four brothers; and three sisters.

She was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all.

At the family's request, funeral services will be private. William E. Little Funeral Homes, Inc., 60 S. Main St., Manchester, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the White Rose Hospice, 1412 Sixth Ave., York, PA 17403.
