The Life of GERALD KENNETH ERICKSON JR.

Gerald "Gary" K. Erickson, Jr., 74, of Panama City Beach, FL and formerly of Des Moines, passed away on May 18, 2023, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.

A Memorial Service for Gary will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Morning Star Assisted Living’s Chapel, 525 S. 60th St., West Des Moines at 10:00 AM.  A casual gathering will be held prior to the service from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM.  Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.

He was born on April 18, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa, to his late parents, Gerald K. Erickson, Sr., and Patricia Ellen King.

Gary's journey began at Dowling Catholic High School, where he received his education and built a strong foundation for his future endeavors. He further pursued higher education at Drake University, where he honed his skills and developed a passion for sales from his mentor, Bill Reichardt, at Reichardt Clothing in Des Moines.

Throughout his career, Gary displayed an exceptional work ethic and determination, which led him to excel in the field of sales. He started his professional journey at Centel Cellular and worked at various retailers including Sprint, Hargray Wireless and Cricket. Through hard work and dedication, he steadily climbed the corporate ladder, eventually assuming management roles. Gary's colleagues and peers held him in high regard, recognizing his integrity and ability to lead with fairness and compassion.

On October 18, 1985, Gary married the love of his life, Pam Hass, in Des Moines. Their union was a testament to the strength of their bond and the enduring love they shared throughout their years together. Pam and Gary created countless memories and faced life's challenges as a team, providing unwavering support for one another.

Beyond his professional life, Gary cherished his personal pursuits and hobbies. He had a profound love for pheasant hunting, which allowed him to connect with nature and appreciate its beauty. Golfing was another passion that brought him and Pam joy and relaxation, as he challenged himself on the green. Additionally, Gary found solace in freshwater fishing, enjoying the tranquility and thrill it provided.

Gary leaves behind a legacy of kindness, integrity, and dedication.  His warm smile and friendly demeanor touched the lives of many, and his presence will be deeply missed by his wife, Pam; one son, Andrew (Jennifer) Erickson; one daughter, Amy Lynn (Bill) Taha; three grandchildren, Riley Erickson, Haley Roberts, Addison Roberts; one brother, David Erickson; two sisters, Marilyn (Dennis) Brownell and Adrainne Morrison and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Nancy Knight.
