The Life of LOUISE EVELYN BAKER

Louise Evelyn Baker was called home, after 90 years, by her heavenly father on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 in Des Moines, IA. She was born on January 24, 1932 to Lawrence and Fern Fillman. She was the welcomed addition for her three older brothers, Donald, Robert, and Richard. Their home was filled with music and sports.

Louise graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines in January, 1949. She married Wesley L. Baker on February 19, 1949. In 1951, they were blessed with a son, Steven. A second son followed in 1954, Dennis. Brian, their third son, was born in 1961. Louise was the heart of the home and enjoyed using her skills as a registered beautician and seamstress in being a homemaker.

In 1964, Wesley and Louise made the decision to become foster parents. Over the next 35 years, their home became a safe harbor for 72 children experiencing challenges along life's journey. They became close to many of them, including one daughter they adopted, Pamela, and one son, Randy Collins.

Louise is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Fern Fillman, her 3 brothers, her husband Wesley, and her daughter Pamela.

She is survived by her sons: Steven (Tanya), Dennis (Tina), Brian (Deb), and Randy (Maria). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Michael (Deseret), Stephanie, Teresa (Andrew), Sarah (Brad), A.J. (Michelle), Nathan, Nicholas, Toby and Jericho. Sam and Kate are her cherished great-grandchildren.

At Louise's request, there will be no service. There will be a small graveside ceremony at a later date. She will be interred at the Highland Memory Gardens with her husband, Wesley.
