John T. Newson, 59, was taken home to be with his loving Savior on February 10, 2021. He was a beloved husband and a cherished Dad and Papa.

John was a 1980 graduate of Olathe High School. He got his BS in education from Pittsburg State. John received his MA in Christian leadership from Gordon Cornwell. He was an ordained Bishop with the Church of God and served as the pastor of Prairie Center Church for 25 years.

John leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Susan Newson; son, Andrew (Ashley) Newson; daughter, Emily A (Sammy) Robey; grandsons, Levi Newson, Braxton Newson, and Kaleb Newson; parents, Bill and Barbara Newson; sister, Pam (Chris) Cross; sister-in-law, Beth (John) Reynolds; brothers-in-law, Darrin (Prem) May and Paul May; nephews, Kyle Cross, Christian Reynolds, and Jayden May; his father-in-law, Leonard May, and a host of other precious family and friends.

John loved his family and friends well. He had a veracious appetite for literature, was an anointed speaker, gifted writer, intelligent, kind, selfless, and hard working. He was a loyal friend, a mentor to young people, had a servant’s heart, and a pastor who loved his church family. John loved God and was active in helping others to find help, hope, and healing in a personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

In his memory, a scholarship fund has been set up through Prairie Center Church of God. The donations made will be used to provide training opportunities and resources for young leaders to grow and develop their leadership skills.

The memorial service will be available to view online beginning at 10am on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, https://fb.me/e/1HEtwTSve
