The Life of Kathleen Kathleen G Berger

Kathleen “Kay” G. Berger 89 of Pottsville passed away on Wednesday while a resident of Providence Place after a five-year battle with Alzheimer’s. 

Born in St. Clair, May 23, 1931 she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Catherine Gehring. 

Kay was a graduate of Pottsville Area High School. 

She was a member of St. John’s the Baptist in Pottsville. 

Kay worked at Acme Markets for 39 years until she retired in 1991.  She worked in just about every department while at Acme including the deli counter, clerk, and cashier. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Bob Berger who passed away in 2012.  She is also predeceased by her sister, Peggy Poole and brother-in-law Clarence “Sam” Berger. 

Kay is survived by her daughter Ellen Reifsnyder of Minersville and grandson Shawn Reifsnyder of Schuylkill Haven.  She is also survived by brother Joe Vernay husband to Jane of Pottsville and sister-in-law Emmy Berger of Columbia, MD and nieces Rayanne, Jennifer, Jessica, and Jody and nephew Terry. 

Services are private at the convenience of the family.  Interment will be on the grounds of Schuylkill Memorial Park.  Grabowski Funeral Home, Schuylkill Haven is entrusted with the services.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Activity fund at Providence Place, 2200 1st Avenue, Pottsville, PA 17901.  Memories and condolences can be shared at www.grabowskifuneralhome.com
