The Life of Mr. Michael M. Komornik

Michael Martin Komornik, Jr., 90, of Fairfield, Connecticut passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 4, 2022. Born on March 8, 1932, he was the son of the late Michael Komornik and Wanda Micek Komornik. Michael was a pharmacy graduate of Fordham University and after serving in the Army, attended Fairfield University to pursue a degree in education. Michael worked for many years as a high school math teacher at Milford High School. He served as the golf and tennis coach in the district as well. Michael also held a second job working as a part-time pharmacist at Switzer’s Pharmacy in Southport, Connecticut. Later in life, he studied to become a stockbroker and guided many Westport clients to financial success.

Michael loved both sports and the arts. He was an avid tennis player and golfer, belonging to several tennis and golf clubs. He often took his daughters out on the tennis courts and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. Michael was also very fond of classical music and he, along with his wife, were great supporters of area symphonies. He instilled a great love of music in his children, often taking his family to operas and musicals. Michael was also a proud member of the Fairfield chapter of the Lions Club. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling as well as spending time with his large family. Michael also lived Stratford, Connecticut and wintered in Bonita Springs, Florida.

Michael was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Betsy. He leaves behind six daughters, Laurie (Mark) Hartman, Susan (Tom) Hamilton, Christine (John) Gerety, Carole Walker, Sandra (Jim) Bondi, and Linda (Eric) Stones. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Friends are invited to greet his family on Monday, July 11, 2022 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 149 S. Pine Creek Rd. in Fairfield. The Mass will be live-streamed at 
https://www.stanthonyffld.org/. Interment with Military Honors will take place in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
