Elwood "Woody" Wheaton was born in Philadelphia on October 3, 1914. Lefthanded, he was a pitcher and outfielder for the Philadelphia Athletics from 1943 to 1944. He played in 37 games for the Athletics, seven in the outfield at the end of the 1943 season, then thirty games in 1944, eleven of them as a pitcher.

Elwood "Woody" Wheaton passed away at the age of 81 on December 11, 1995.
