The Life of Kenneth E. Shull

Kenneth E. Shull of White Horse Village Kenneth E. Shull, 97, died on April 22, 2014.

Ken graduated from Haverford High School in 1934 and Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science with B. Sc. degree in chemistry in 1938. He worked for Philadelphia Suburban Water Company for 45 years in various positions starting as a chemist and bacteriologist to chief chemist to superintendent of Water Treatment in 1956. He was the director of Public Relations and Water Quality Control, then vice president in 1958. He also was vice president of Research & Environmental Affairs and before retiring, he was a valuable consultant for the company.

Ken was a member of American Chemical Society. He was a life member of the American Water Works Association and New England Water Works Association. He was a member of the Ardmore Rotary Club, and served as president in 1953 and secretary from 1959-1961. He was a longtime member of Overbrook Golf Club. He was the president of the Main Line Chamber Of Commerce in 1968 and director from 1960-1977. He was a member of the Academy Of Natural Sciences., the National Water Alliance and America Council on Science and Health. He was a member of the Advisory Committee of the Institute for Research on Land and Water Resources with Penn State University.

He won many awards during his career, including Service Award, Philadelphia Section A.C.S.. The Fuller Award AWWA in 1968. He was awarded as an Honorary Member of the Main Line Chamber of Commerce in 1981. Ken loved gardening, woodworking and wildlife.

He was the devoted father of Dave Shull (Pat) of West Chester, Richard Shull (Lila) of N.C. and the late Nancy Branca; and grandfather of William of Fla. and Diane Shull of Wis. His Memorial Service is at 1 p.m. Thursday May 1st., in White Horse Village Auditorium, 535 Gradyville Road, Newtown Square.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be sent to Adult Care Of Chester County, 201 Sharp Lane Exton, PA 19341. Interment is private.
