The Life of Kenneth L. Stutzman

Kenneth L. Stutzman, 85, of Maxatawny Township, died early Sunday morning, September 23, 2018 in his home. He was the husband of Marlene L. (Bergey) Stutzman. They were married July 16, 1960. Born in Schwenksville, Montgomery County, he was a son of the late James G., Sr., and Edith (Gross) Stutzman. Kenneth was a member of Oley Mennonite Church, Oley, where he served on the church council for many years and taught children's Sunday School. Ken loved the Lord. He spoke many times of his readiness to meet his Savior Jesus Christ.

Kenneth worked his entire life as a dairy and crop farmer. He farmed over 65 years. For over 40 years, he was a seed salesman representing T.A. Seeds, Seedway and N.K. Seeds. Kenneth retired from his seed sales in 2017. Mr. Stutzman was a former member of Mid-Atlantic Farm Credit Board of Directors and a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. Ken enjoyed traveling in all 50 states with his wife in addition to special family trips. A summer weekend trip to Spruce Lake Retreat was enjoyed by the family every summer.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, Marlene, Kenneth is survived by his children, Beverly K. (Stutzman), wife of Kevin R. Smeltzer, Richmond, VA; Jon E., husband of Holly A. (Mark) Stutzman, Kutztown; Karen J. (Stutzman), wife of Craig L. Bontrager, Milford, NE; Son-in-law, Michael Williams, Oley, widower of predeceased daughter Marianne B. (Stutzman) Williams and ten grandchildren: C. Ryan Smeltzer, Heather A. (Stutzman) Funk, wife of Joshua, Kayla R. (Smeltzer) Matthias, wife of Bradley, Phillip J. Stutzman, Tara B. Williams, Savannah R. Bontrager, Chad D. Williams, Sydney L. Bontrager, Celia G. Bontrager and Phoebe A. Stutzman. Other survivors include a sister Lorraine (Stutzman), wife of Benjamin Myers, Mechanicsburg; a brother, J. Merle, husband of Lorraine (Rice) Stutzman, Fleetwood; and a brother-in-law, Samuel Horst, Harrisonburg, VA, widower of predeceased sister Mary Ellen (Stutzman) Horst; Sisters-in-law, Naomi (Shenk) Stutzman, Mertztown, widow of predeceased brother, A. Marlowe Stutzman; Gladys (Derstine) Kolb, Lancaster, widow of predeceased brother Donald G. Stutzman; Elaine (Alderfer) Derstine, Souderton, widow of predeceased brother E. Dale Stutzman; Elaine B. (Bergey), Souderton, widow of Norman Bergey, Jr.

In addition to his parents, and daughter Marianne, Kenneth was also predeceased by a son, Michael Kent Stutzman; and a brother, James G. Stutzman, Jr. and sisters, Mildred Stutzman and Sara Jeanne (Stutzman) Fretz.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown; a second visitation will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018, from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. in Oley Mennonite Church, 1571 Memorial Highway, Oley; followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Gary E. Lloyd. Interment in Salford Mennonite Church Cemetery, 480 Groff Mill Road, Harleysville, PA, will take place on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. (please meet at the cemetery).

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Spruce Lake Retreat Center Wilderness Camp, 5389 Route 447, Canadensis, PA 18325.
