The Life of Gloria Walker

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 22, 2018 in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Gloria Wyble Walker, 94, who passed away on June 19, 2018.

Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Gloria, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Lee Wyble and the former Lena Guilbeau.

Gloria was born in Chenneyville, LA on August 6, 1923. She married her husband, Sam Walker and dedicated her life to being a wife and raising their 3 children. She will be remembered for her kindness, patience, gentle nature and her giving spirit. Her hands were always busy, cooking, sewing, crocheting or praying. She was a faith filled, prayerful woman, a loving mother and grandmother. She had a great ability to make anyone she spoke with feel special and important. She was very wise in the things that mattered most in life; the simple things, family and friends. She will be dearly missed by her family.

She is survived by her three children, Charlotte Walker Benoit and her husband, George, Diana Walker Layne, and Kathleen Walker Guilliot and her husband, Albert. She leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 72 years, Samuel F. Walker and her sister, Iris Wyble Ducharme.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Thursday, June 21, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM on Thursday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue on Friday from 8:00AM until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be her six grandsons, Bryan Keith Benoit, David Allen Benoit, M.D., Paul Christopher Benoit, Schacht Victor McCollum, II, John Albert Guilliot, II M.D., Jared Walker Guilliot, DMD and her two grandaughters husband, Lenwood Young Nelson and Evan Hollis Anderson.

Honorary Pallbearers will include her son-in-laws, George P. Benoit and J. Albert Guilliot, DDS.

The family would like to express their gratitude and extends special thanks to the kind and loving staffs of Garden View Assisted Living, Hospice of Acadiana, and her caregivers, Laura, Frankie, Clay, Maire, LaToya and Elmo.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Carmelite Monastery at 1250 Carmel Drive in Lafayette or to Hospice of Acadiana.
