The Life of Alexander J Stewart

Alexander J. "Alex" Stewart, 84, of Pottsville, passed away Sunday evening surrounded by his loving family at his residence.

Born Sept. 16, 1933, in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Alexander and Laura E. Evans Stewart.

He was a high school graduate from Overbrook School for the Blind, Philadelphia. He was the owner of Stewarts Concessions for 45 years. He was also a black belt. Alex was a member of Greenwood Hill Fire Company, Pottsville Lions Club and Pulaski Masonic Lodge No. 216. He was 32nd-degree mason, proud recipient of the York Cross Honor, and past president of the PA Blind Merchant Guild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, June Maskerines, and grandson, Kevin Stewart Jr.

Alex is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Nancy L. Hawley Stewart; son, Kevin Stewart and his wife, Elizabeth; daughters, Nancy Kimmel and Cindie L. Vidal and her husband, Robby; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Ann Oler and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 515 W. Market St., Pottsville, with Pastor Jack Murray officiating. Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
