The Life of Maizie Knuckles

 

Maizie Mendoza Knuckles, 92, died Monday, May 14, 2018, in a local care center.

 

Mrs. Knuckles was born February 27, 1926 in Charenton, LA to Morris Joseph Mendoza and Inez Champagne Mendoza and was married to Gordon Edward Knuckles for over sixty-three years until his death in 2011. She had a strong Catholic faith, which was her foothold and strength throughout her life. She worked as a realtor / broker for over 50 years in Missouri, Texas and Louisiana, finally retiring in Lafayette, LA, the town that she grew up in and loved. For the past six years, she resided in Lake Charles.

 

She is survived by her children, Karon Moore and husband Emmett, of Dallas, TX, Debbie Link and husband Gerald of Lake Charles, and Paul Knuckles of Dallas, TX; six grandchildren; Eric Link (Adrienne), Kelly DeMolle (Maverick), Kyle Link (Brittney), all of Lake Charles, Ryan and Racheal Knuckles of Dallas, TX, Brian Knuckles of Kansas City, MO; and ten great grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gordon Edward Knuckles; one son, Brian Keith Knuckles; sister, Emmy Givens; and twin grandsons.

 

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery, 3111 Johnston Street, Lafayette, Louisiana, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Father Patrick Broussard will officiate.

 

The family would like to express their grateful appreciation to Dr. Arthur Primeaux, Heart of Hospice, Kim Moore and Lois Malvo for the excellent love and care they have given to Ms. Maizie these last years.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Federation of the Blind or the charity of one’s choice.
