The Life of Richard J. Jones

Richard J. Jones, 77, of Brigantine, NJ, former longtime Drexel Hill, resident died May 12, 2018 at home.

Born in Wilkes Barre, he was a graduate of Upper Darby High School, class of '59. Dick was a Champion Pro-Bowler who owned and operated the Gehris Lanes in the Milbourne/ Upper Darby section of Delaware County.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and later in the reserves. He retired in 2008 after 50 years on the Bowling Tour and 30 as operator of the Gehris Lanes. A member of the various professional Bowlers’ Associations, he was inducted into their Halls of Fame including the GPBA in 1985, PSBA in 2001 and the Delco Hall of Fame in 2008.

Richard enjoyed spending time with his family, playing poker, and bocce ball with his wife and friends.                 .

Survivors: include his wife of 38 years, Rosemarie (nee Vettese ); Son, Michael (Peter Blunk) Mitchell, Daughter, Kimberly Jones, Sisters, Mary Jane (John) Buanadonna and Betty Ann (James) Backes

Service: Memorial Service will be 1:30 pm Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Toppitzer Funeral Home at Arlington, 2900 State Rd., Drexel Hill, Pa 19026

Visitation:  12:30PM to 1:30PM Saturday at the Toppitzer Funeral Home at Arlington

Contributions: in his memory to Bible Baptist Church of Upper Darby, 8607 West Chester Pk, 2nd floor; Upper Darby 19082 or Humane Society of Atlantic City would be preferred

Rich, what are we going to do without you?!  Since the day I met you and Rosemarie, both of you have held a special place in my heart!  I will never forget your kindness and smile!   You are definately a class act!  Will miss you lots!
