The Life of Elwood N Scott



Elwood N. "Scotty" Scott, 80, of Stanton Street, Schuylkill Haven, died Tuesday afternoon at Seton Manor, Orwigsburg. He was a lifelong resident of Schuylkill Haven. 

Born in Schuylkill Haven, Nov. 27, 1927, he was a son of the late Elmer and Florence Smith Scott. 

He was the husband of Kathryn Hyde Scott, his beloved wife of 57 years. 

He was employed by A&P Tea Co. for 37 years until retiring in December 1981. He then worked for Sovereign Bank, Schuylkill Haven, until 2001. 

He was a 1945 graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School, after which he served in the Navy during World War II. 

He was a member of the former St. Matthew Lutheran Church and was a current member of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, both of Schuylkill Haven. He served Jerusalem Church as member of the church council and was church treasurer for nine years. While a member of St. Matthew's, he was a youth advisor in the 1960s. 

He was preceded in death by a sister, Fay Scott Fabian, in 1981. 

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Gloria and her husband, Jeffrey Handling, Stroudsburg; a son, Thomas Scott and his wife, Kimberly, Haven Fair Lawn; grandchildren, Tara Amerman and her husband, Benjamin, Tanya Wicks and her husband, Aaron, Tessa Kate Handling, Jordyn Scott, Tomara Scott and Chris Barker and his wife, Dana; five great-grandchildren, Derek and Rebekah Amerman, Makehla, Emagen and Shilah Barker; a brother, Ronald Scott and his wife, Dolores, Tuscon, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews. 

Memorial Celebration of Scotty's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 16 at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 252 Dock St., Schuylkill Haven, with the Rev. Daniel Bell officiating. Family and friends are invited to call from 9:30 a.m. Feb. 16 until time of services at the church. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. The family requests donations be made in his memory to Jerusalem Church Memorial Fund, 252 Dock St., Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972.
