The Life of NILUS JOHN SEUFERER

Nilus "John" Seuferer, 73, passed away on February 14th at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, February 20th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary''s Catholic Church in Lacona. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona with a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in care of his family to be given to his floor at the Iowa Veterans Home where he was an active and very involved resident for 13 years.

Nilus John Seuferer was born July 20, 1944 at home in Lacona to Nilus and Bertha Seuferer. He grew up in Lacona and graduated in 1963. John then served four years in the Navy during Vietnam. He specialized in electronics and communications during his service, a field that was to be a life long enjoyment to him. He enjoyed Ham Radio and belonged to several clubs including Whiskey Echo Tango Club, Des Moines Radio Relay, and Worldwide Outlaws.

John was married to Janice Schaffer in Indianola in 1971. They made their home in Des Moines where John began work in Compounding at Firestone for 28 years retiring in 1996. He also enjoyed gardening and working in his yards, fishing, doing artwork and singing. He especially liked to grow all kinds of flowers, plants, and enjoyed growing vegetables.

Preceding John in death was his wife, Jan Seuferer in 2005; his parents: Nilus and Bertha; and his sister, Pat Pickens. Surviving are his sister: Ann (Bernard) Konrad of Milo; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
