The Life of Betty J. Miller

Betty J. (Lesher) Miller, 89, of Topton, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 surrounded by her loving family in Buehrle Center at The Lutheran Home at Topton, where she was a resident for four years. She was the widow of Calvin R. "Cally" Miller, who died on November 19, 2013. Born in Topton, Betty was a daughter of the late Frank C. and Rhea M. (Schell) Lesher. She was a graduate of Kutztown Area High School and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Topton. Betty was employed as a Secretary at the former Caloric Corporation, Topton, for 35 years, retiring in 1989. She also worked as a counter clerk at the former Smith Rexall Drug Store in Topton from 1947 to 1949. Betty served as the Secretary of the Topton Senior Citizens from 1994 to 2011.  She was also a member of the Topton Minstrel show in the 1970's and the former Topton Cantantes Chorus in the 1940's and 50's. Betty loved to sing and dance. She also enjoyed baking apple pies for family gatherings. Betty and her husband Cally enjoyed many adventurous bus trips with friends. They both enjoyed playing one-armed bandits at the casinos.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Vicky Lee (Miller), wife of Timothy J. Geist, LuAnn (Miller), wife of Randy A. Bennecoff, both of Fleetwood; a brother, Donald F., husband of Patricia (Angstadt) Lesher, Kutztown, three grandchildren, Tara A. (Bennecoff), wife of Scott W. Ohl, Alburtis, Darrin M., husband of Megan (Marino) Geist, Richboro, Bucks Co., Michael A., husband of Stephanie (Hoch) Bennecoff, Lititz; and seven great grandchildren, Morgan R. and Shane E. Ohl, Aiden B., Abigail K., and Alexander R. Geist, Derek M. and Kayla H. Bennecoff. Betty was predeceased by her husband and parents.

A memorial service to celebrate Betty's life will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 25 East Weis Street, Topton, with Reverend Timothy W. Sadler, Chaplain of Heartland Hospice, officiating. Inurnment will follow in Topton Union Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
