The Life of Helen L. Walters

Helen Louise Walters, 96, formerly of New Castle, passed away January 11, 2018 at The Lutheran Home in Topton, PA. Born May 16, 1921 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Bruce Parks Love and Maude Mae Remley Love. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Walters, on June 25, 1979.

A graduate of New Castle High School, she also attended classes at Penn State. Helen was a homemaker and also worked as a clerk/typist for the American Cancer Society until her retirement in 1991. She was self-employed in printing services for M & M Services. In earlier days Helen was a reporter of the New Castle News where she covered events at the Lawrence County Fair for 10 years.

A member of AARP and lifelong member of Wimodausis and Eastern Star, Helen was very involved with several granges including the Mahoning Valley Grange, Pomona Grange, the PA State Grange and the National Grange. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church of New Castle. She taught women’s Sunday School for 38 years.

Surviving are her two daughters, Robin Hetherington of Ringtown, PA, and Gail Fenstermacher of Mertztown, PA; 8 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded by one son, Blair E. Walters.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. John Yergan officiating. Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
