The Life of John M. Glennon

John M. Glennon died peacefully in Chestnut Hill Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, on November 11, 2017. He was 88 years old. John died only hours before his wife Mary passed away in the hospital room they had shared for two days.
John was born in Manchester, England on August 3, 1929 to Polly and Edward Glennon. He grew up with four siblings, Winnie, Arthur, Joan, and Ernie. In 1947, John emigrated to the United States and stayed with his Aunt Lily and Uncle Meyer Millstein in New York. John found a job with the Royal Globe Insurance Company, and it was on a company event that he met Mary Cappadona. A courtship followed and they were wed in 1951 in Hoboken, NJ, Mary’s home town. They had two children, Edward and Theresa.
In 1967, John took the family to Hartford, CT, for a new job with Aetna Insurance. John and Mary also had a vacation home in Cape Cod for many years, where they loved to walk on the beach and enjoyed sunsets over Cape Cod Bay.
For a few years in the 1980s, John’s job took them to Havertown, PA, but after retirement they moved back to Connecticut, this time to Coventry. Eventually, John and Mary returned to the Philadelphia area, and most recently resided in the Cathedral Village retirement community.
John was a person of principle and integrity, and was devoted to his family.
John had many interests. He was introduced to baseball by his Uncle Meyer, attending Brooklyn Dodgers games at Ebbets field, and followed the game for the rest of his life. He played golf and watched all the major tournaments on TV. John loved listening to music, especially classical and folk music, and taught himself to play guitar so he could play and sing his favorite songs with friends and family.
He also enjoyed visiting national parks and other areas of natural beauty, and took many road trips with Mary across the U.S. Although he lost his British accent, he stayed close to his family in England, and continued to enjoy the foods he grew up with throughout his life.
John was close to his three grandchildren, Julia, Elizabeth, and Joel, and took great pleasure in being with them and watching them grow into adulthood.
John’s family will miss him greatly and will always carry their love for him in their hearts.
