The Life of William McEwen Forrest

FORREST, WILLIAM MCEWEN "BILL"89 of Haverford, PA died on September 1, 2017 in Bryn Mawr.

Mr. Forrest was born in Lansdowne, PA on October 20, 1927. He is survived by his wife of thirty six years, Elizabeth Hardie Forrest; his twin brother David Swing Forrest and wife Marion Kern Forrest; his children Kathleen Forrest Harris and husband Richard Carl Harris, their daughter Patricia Harris Bellows and her husband Warren Sylvanus Bellows IV and daughters Mary Elizabeth and Anna Margaret; Richard Wood Forrest and his wife Mary Ann Robertson, their daughters Hillary Grace Robertson-Forrest, Hannah Catherine Robertson-Forrest and husband Brendan O'Hara, and son Thomas Wood Robertson-Forrest; William McEwen Forrest Jr., his wife Dawn Forrest, daughter Olivia Kathleen Forrest, William McEwen Forrest III; his stepchildren Peter Hardie Lind and wife Mary Admasian, daughter Vanessa Brady Lind and her husband Brendan Mortimer; Timothy Gillespie Lind; Elizabeth Lind Crane and husband Douglas Arthur Crane and children Elizabeth Hardie Crane, Andrew Eaton Crane and Charlotte Lind Crane; Frederick John Lind III and wife Allison Rheiner Lind, children Frederick John Lind IV and his wife Courtney Elizabeth Lind, Brian Rheiner Lind and Gregory Michael Lind. He is survived by four nieces, Elizabeth Forrest Harrington, Victoria Forrest Arculin, Anne Forrest McKell, Wende Forrest Powell and their families. His siblings Richard Eyre Forrest and Mary Swing Forrest and his first wife Patricia Wood Forrest predecease him.

Following his education at the Episcopal Academy he served in the U.S. Army as a medic in the 98th General Hospital in Munich. He was a member of the Army's European Theatre track and field team that competed in the GI Olympics of 1947, winning silver in the 100 yard dash and bronze in the 4 x 100 yard relay at the Berlin Olympic Stadium.

After his service he graduated from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and was president of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity chapter at Penn.

He joined the family businesses, Angus Mills and the Forrest Yarn Company, where he remained until retirement. Bill was active in the Boy Scouts of America, serving for many years as Scoutmaster of Wallingford Troop 277.

The Valley Forge Council recognized him for his leadership. He loved sports, loved going to Avalon and above all, he loved his family.

Services will be held at 11 A.M. on Tues. Sept. 5 at St. David's Episcopal Church, 763 Valley Forge Rd., Wayne PA 19087.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Episcopal Academy, 1785 Bishop White Dr., Newtown Sq., PA. 19073.
