The Life of Warren Russell Jensen
Warren Russell Jensen, 93 of Sugar Grove, PA, died Monday, May 15, 2017 at Warren General Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born January 12, 1924, in Philadelphia, to Ann and Jens
Russell Jensen, both children of Danish immigrants. As a boy, Warren
enjoyed summers at the seashore in Sea Isle, NJ, where he developed a
life-long love of boating and fishing.
After graduating from West Philadelphia High School, he studied
Engineering at Drexel University, where he was also in ROTC (Reserved
Officers’ Training Corps). A decorated World War II Veteran, he served
in the Army Corp of Engineers in Europe, the Philippines, and Japan.
Determined to finish college, he returned to Drexel, graduating with degree in Engineering on June 14, 1948 and marrying his childhood sweetheart, Carolyn Arlene Greer, the very next day, at her uncle’s home in Rose Valley, PA.
Warren worked for 40 years as Professional Engineer for Moore Products Company, which was based in Springhouse, PA, and was a member of the ISA (Instrument Society of America). Starting out as a salesman “chasing smokestacks,” he rose to become branch manager of the company’s New York Office. He was in the vanguard of technologies such as extracting oxygen from seawater onboard nuclear submarines, pneumatic controllers for oil refineries, and testing the LEM (Lunar Excursion Modular) for astronauts to use safely on the moon.
Warren and Carolyn raised their three children, Barbara, Virginia, and Robert, in Scotch Plains, NJ, where he was a Boy Scout leader in his son’s troop at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Westfield, NJ. He was especially proud when Robert became an Eagle Scout and then followed in his footsteps, graduating from Drexel as an Engineer and working for Moore Products Company.
The family summered at the seashore in Cape May Point, NJ. Carolyn
and Warren retired there in 1990, where they were active in the Civic
Club, Cape May Victorian Dancers, and St. Peter’s-By-the-Sea Episcopal
Church.
Warren was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years in 2000,
son-in-law, Eric Lindemann, in 2009, and daughter-in-law, Renee Farneti
Jensen, in 2011. During those difficult years, he appreciated having
his Companion Dog, Amber, a Golden Retriever/Labrador, constantly by his
side, from 2003 until her death in 2013. He is survived by all three
children: Barbara (Eric) Lindemann of Brookhaven, NY, Virginia (Thomas)
Loizeaux of Sugar Grove, PA, and Robert (Cathy) Jensen of Scotch
Plains, NJ, seven grandchildren: Kelly (John) Boisvert, Amy (Edward)
Bennett, Ruth (Daniel) Boisvert, Russell Loizeaux, Raivo Lindemann, Tiiu
(Ludgy) Lindemann Wu, and Aleacia Jensen, eleven great-grandchildren:
Melissa, Katelyn, Jonah, Sophie, and Olivia Bennett; Arlene, Esther,
Isaac, and Lillian Boisvert, Jacob and Joanna Boisvert.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sugar Grove Mission
Covenant Church, PO Box 300, Sugar Grove, PA 16350, where Warren said he
always felt so welcome. “I was glad when they said unto me; Let us go
into the house of the Lord.” Psalm 122:1
Burial will be Wednesday, May 24, at Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, PA.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday May 20 at 11 am at
