Sibling of Hunley Submarine Crew Member

Emma Ridgway, along with her sister Mary Joyner, are burried together here at Arlington. They are sisters of Joseph Ridgway, crewmember of the Hunley submarine.

After 130 years, the Hunley, a Civil War submarine was raised from beneath the Charleston Harbor. The remains of Emma and her sister Mary were exhumed in 2004 to obtain DNA samples used to identify the crew member Joseph Ridgway.
