The Life of WILLIAM RUSSELL BENNETT

William Bennett, 94, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born on August 30, 1922, to Russell and Grace Bennett in Des Moines, Iowa. William met the love of his life, Eileen when they attended North High School and the two of them were married in 1943. They were married for 61 beautiful years until her passing in 2004 after battling cancer.

William proudly served his country in the US Navy in the submarine service where he operated the radio during World War II. He worked as a salesman for many companies throughout his years. William had an appreciation for reading he was quite the historian, he loved listening to big band music, especially Lawrence Welk, and watching old John Wayne movies. He also, enjoyed tinkering around, rebuilding things and collecting random items over the years. Above all else, his passions in life were his wife, Eileen, and flying his single engine plane.

William is survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eileen; his parents; and brother, Jack Bennett.

Graveside service in honor of William will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.
