The Life of Marie McGee O'Hara

Mimi O'Hara, 85, of Alexandria VA, bid her final farewell on September 11, 2023. Born Marie Virginia McGee on May 27, 1938, in Pottstown, PA, she lived a life as vibrant as her personality. Known by her nieces as "The Cool Aunt," Mimi blazed trails, sassiness in tow.

Mimi, a true fashionista, strutted through life with style. She leaves behind her brother, Dr. James McGee and his wife Kathleen McGee, a treasured crew of beloved nieces, nephews, and her dear in-laws, the O'Hara clan. Her circle of friends will forever cherish her memory. Let's not forget her loyal companion, Ariel, the best dog ever, who wagged her tail beside her every step of the way.

Mimi is predeceased by her beloved husband Ray McNulty O'Hara whom she met while working on Capitol Hill. Together they traveled extensively and shared a deep love of Golden Retrievers, raising several together over the years. She is also predeceased by her parents Agnes and Leo McGee, sisters Kathleen "Di" French, Patricia Foley, Eileen Joseph, her brother Fr. Leo J. McGee and nephews Kevin and Timothy Foley.

In the world of politics, Mimi soared to great heights. She started as a legislative aide for Congressman John Brademas from Indiana, and before we knew it, she was the Deputy Director of the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, working under the legendary Speaker of the House, Thomas S. Foley. Talk about clout! Mimi was even named one of the top Capitol Hill staffers with more influence than a room full of politicians.

When she wasn't shaking things up in the political arena, Mimi had a knack for keeping life exciting. She cheered on the Redskins with unrivaled enthusiasm, collected shoes like a pro, and aced crossword puzzles like nobody's business. She loved spending time with cherished friends and family going to football games, lunch trips and journeys to the casino.

To honor Mimi's remarkable journey, a heartfelt celebration of her life will take place at 11:00am on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at St. Louis Church, located at 2907 Popkins Lane in Alexandria, VA. Funeral services will be followed by interment at Ivy Hill Cemetery.
