The Life of RICHARD LEROY WITZENBURG

Richard L. “Dick” Witzenburg, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at his home with his loving wife, Rosemary by his side after a long, courageous battle with a lung disease.

Dick was the eldest son of Murry and Frances Witzenburg, born on June 27, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from East High School and attended Drake University and joined the U. S. Air Force as a 2nd Lt. during the Korean War. Upon his return home, he became a sheet metal worker and joined Sheet Metal Workers Local #45. He also belonged to American Legion Post 659. Dick enjoyed playing cards, shooting pool, reading, antiquing, listening to country music, and doing Sudoko. He was a NASCAR fan and liked watching football, basketball, and British movies. He also enjoyed camping and working outside in the yard.

Visitation and sharing of memories will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 8, 2016 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines. Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9 at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Dick is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rosemary; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Logan and Shirleen Light and sister-in-law, Marilyn Overturff, all of Des Moines; sister-in-law, Nena Witzenburg of Chevy Chase, MD; sons, Michael and Gregory (Tammy), both of Des Moines; granddaughter, Christine of Ankeny; brother, Dennis (Charlotte) of Nashville, TN; eight nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Gary; his parents, Murry and Frances Witzenburg; and in-laws, Marvin and Eva Light.
