Joel Michael Newman was born April 5th, 1999 in Olathe, Kansas. He left this life April 30th, 2016. He was adored by his parents Michael and Elizabeth and his sisters Melissa and Marsha.

He was an easy-going baby that grew into a laid-back teen. He loved building things from Legos, making various crafts, wood-working, designing and building the family fire pit, Aero space and Engineering projects, (not to mention he could make anything out of duct tape). 

He was born an animal lover and cherished his cat Gracie and new puppy Ellie. He was involved in Scouts and had a love for music. Joel grew up taking guitar lessons with his mom and was passionate about music, wearing headphones in whenever he could. 

He was a K-State fan attending multiple basketball and football games with his dad and Marsha. He enjoyed bike riding and exploring trails with Marsha and loved going to the shooting range with his dad. He enjoyed hunting with Reed and Melissa, tagging his first turkey and doe, along with bagging his first goose, duck, quail and pheasant all within his first year of hunting. He loved video games and watching movies and TV series on Netflix. 

He was a diligent student, always excelling in school. He was enrolled in the Aerospace and Engineering program at Olathe Northwest and was interested in engineering.

People that knew him best described him as kind, gentle and patient always valuing the company of close friends. He was quiet and soft spoken but seemed to always have a witty sarcastic comment if you were lucky enough to be within earshot. He had a dry sense of humor and always seemed to find the comedy in situations. 

Joel richly blessed the lives of his family and friends and will be deeply missed. Rest in heavenly peace.

He is survived by his parents, Mike and Elizabeth Newman, sisters Marsha Eck and Melissa Newman, grandparents Warren and Sheryl Newman, and aunts and uncles John and Heather Button, and Marshall and Julie Welch.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents James and Helen Welch and great-grandmother Pauline Phillips.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Unleashed Pet Rescue in Shawnee, KS and Kids TLC in Olathe, KS.
