The Life of DONALD DEAN EASTMAN

Donald D. Eastman, 74, passed away from this life on February 23, 2016, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. He ultimately died from kidney failure, but his family will tell you he died from an incurable case of pride and joy in a family he deeply cherished.

Don was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on August 1, 1941. He was a proud graduate of East High School and married the love of his life, Diane Sherwood, on June 14, 1963.

Don began his career as a salesman for Wickes Lumber where he worked for 10 years. Don then began working for Cosgriff Construction where he was a Homebuilder and was involved in many partnerships. He retired as Vice President after 30 years of dedicated and faithful service.

Don was a member of the Izaak Walton League, Homebuilder’s Association, and Ankeny First United Methodist Church.

Don was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed boating with family and friends, his annual fishing trip to Canada with the guys, deer hunting in Wyoming and South Dakota, and the many summers he spent crappie fishing on Lake Rathbun where he and his wife purchased a cabin in 1996.

Don found joy in traveling, especially long road trips to Florida, Texas and Arizona, where he could see his favorite attractions along the way.

Don also enjoyed cars, motorcycles, racing, and watching sports, particularly when his grandchildren were involved.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His greatest achievement in life were his children, Julie, Randy and Michael, and he treasured their time spent together over the years.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 53 years, Diane; children, Julie (Jim) Lennie of Ankeny, and Randy (Angela) Eastman of Adel; grandchildren, Justin Eastman (Melanie Thwing), Jessa (Deak) Pinegar, Jordan Eastman, and Brooklyn Eastman-Bartlett; great-grandchildren, Colby, Evan, Garrett, and Camden Pinegar; very special niece and nephew, Stephanie and David; dog, P.J.; as well as a host of other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael; mother, Dorothy; his twin brother, David; and in-laws, Damon and Alice Sherwood.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2016, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at Ankeny First United Methodist Church, Christian Life Center, 710 N.E. 36th Street in Ankeny. A private family burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Because Don was given the gift of life through organ donation 15 years ago when he received his lung transplant, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Advanced Lung Disease and Lung Transplant Programs at the University of Minnesota. You can also send memorials to the Izaak Walton League of Iowa, 118 SE 4th Street Suite 104, Des Moines, IA 50309, in loving memory of Don.
