The Life of Lee V Shriver

Lee V. Shriver, 72, lifelong resident of Olathe, KS, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 5, 2011. Visitation will be from 6-9pm, Thursday, March 10, at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2pm, Friday, at First Christian Church, 200 E. Loula St, Olathe, with private family burial following in Olathe Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church Building Fund, American Cancer Society or the Olathe Medical Center Hospice House Fund.

Lee was born August 5, 1938 in Kansas City, MO to Everett E. and Dorothy Jean (DeVault) Shriver. In his early years, he enjoyed helping his parents at the family owned Shriver Hardware in downtown Olathe. After graduating from high school in 1956, he attended the University of Kansas. Lee then began a 35 year long career as a Letter Carrier for the U.S Post Office in Olathe, where he retired in 1992. In June of 1993, he then began his second career as an Assistant Funeral Director at W.L. Frye & Son Mortuary. Lee was actively involved in the following: First Christian Church, Olathe Lions Club, Historical Society, Johnson County Old Settlers. He enjoyed sharing the Old Settlers slide show with the Olathe community and schools. He was most recently named to the Olathe Alumni Wall of Honor. He was an avid Chiefs and Jayhawks fan and enjoyed caring for his lawn. Lee was a dedicated family man, huge supporter of the Olathe community, self proclaimed professional photographer and a dear friend to many.

Mr. Shriver was preceded in death by his parents and step-son Donald Blackwell. He is survived by his devoted wife of 20 years, LaRue Shriver of the home; 3 daughters, Evevon (Jim) Power of Liberty, MO, Sallie (Randy) Knoll of De Soto, KS, Terri (Randy) Atkin of Spring Hill, KS; step-daughter Susan (Rodney) Squier of Nevada, MO; 2 step-sons, Steve (Mary) Blackwell of Olathe, KS, and Paul (Cathy) Smith of Olathe, KS; daughter-in-law Donna Blackwell of Raymore, MO; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and his cat Lady.

Lee was a tender hearted man who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him!
