The Life of Lucinda Taylor McKoin

DEATH, OF MRS. McKOIN.

Lucinda Taylor Hacker was born in the state of Kentucky on Dec. 16, 1831. On Jan. 29, 1849, she was united in marriage to James L. B. McKoin. Mr. McKoin departed this life March 19, 1878, and Mrs McKoin on Feb. 13, 1907, aged 75 years, 1 month and 27 days. Of her own family, only an aged sister, ten years older, remains. She was the mother of four children, two boys and two girls. All of these have departed, except one.

John McKoin, upon whom this blow falls especially heavy, for he had given up his business and planned to make his home with his mother, Mrs. McKoin, had also four grandchildren. To all of these children she was a loving, thoughtful mother, whose memory will be a constant inspiration to the best living. Since 1858 she has lived in Johnson county, joining her husband in homesteading a farm near what Is now the village of Ocheltree.

She belonged to that generation of brave men and women who lived through the perilous days of border ruffianism and the Civil war. To the loyalty of such women as Mrs. McKoin we owe a great debt of gratitude for they, as truly as did the "boys at the front," helped save the, union. By Mrs. McKoin's cool thoughtfulness the village of Spring Hill was spared a raid by the Quantrel Band.

Very early in life Mrs. McKoin united with the church. Ever since coming to Kansas she has been identified with the church and was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Olathe at the time of her death. It is not easy to too highly praise the strong, consistent, christian character she bore. As wife, mother and friend she was unselfish, thoughtful and true. Her life was fraught with many trials. She bore them all with true christian fortitude and has gone to a christian's blessed reward.

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." The funeral services were held at her home on West Elm street, Olathe, Saturday, Feb. 16th, 1907, at 2 p. m., Rev. N. A. .Shedd officiating. Her body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Olathe.
