The Life of Daniel Stinson

Obituary.

Daniel Stinson was born in Ross county, O., April 6th, 1824. His mother died when he was six years old, and he lived with his grandfather Stinson until he was eleven years of age, at which time he was taken to Fayette county, O., where he was hired out by his father to Guss Grubbs, a farmer. He realized from this nothing but his board and very plain clothes. Being an energetic, ambitious boy, he worked around, after this vear,  at anvthing he could get to do until he was about 18 or19 years of age, when he made a trip or two across the mountains with stock.

He was married to Miss Elizabeth Lindsey Oct. 26, 1848, who, though an invalid for manv vears. is left to mourn the husband's departure. To them were born five children of whom one daughter, Mrs. Mattie Telford, and one son. Grant G. Stinson, alone survive.

Mr. Stinson lived in Fayette county, O., till 1865, when he removed to Kansas and the first year lived one mile east of Ocheltree.  In 1866 he bought a farm in the north west corner of Oxford township, one mile west and one-half mile south of Lenexa, which place he improved and lived upon till November 16, 1887, when he moved to Southwest Olathe on Grant street, at which place he was living at the time of his death, February 15th, 1893.

Two weeks before his death he had a stroke of paralysis, but seemed to be recovering from this when pleuro-pneumonia set in, and after one night of suffering, followed by a day of painless sinking, his life passed silently away, The funeral services were conducted by Rev. John McQuoid, pastor of the M.E. church many friends and old neighbors saw the remains laid to rest in the Olathe cemetery.

Johnson county has lost a useful and respected citizen; his neighbors a trust worthy friend, and his family a loving husband and father.

The success he gained was the inevitable result of good habits, straight forwardness in all matters of business and unflagging toil. He will be remembered by those who knew him best as a man who did his duty as he understood.
