Death of Samuel T. Wood

After long weeks of suffering and great pain, death came to relieve this weary pilgrim, Samuel T. Wood. He was a son of Paul and Nancy Hamilton Wood, and was born in Meggs County, Ohio, on May 2nd, 1834, departed this life at 12:05 Sabbath morning, October 17, at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 15 days.

On the 9th day of September in 1854 he was married to Miss Hester Breckels, who died several years later. To this union four children were born, one of whom is still living,. Charles Wood, of Jamestown, Kans.

On January the 20th, 1866, he was married to Charity Reeves, at the old home in Meggs County, Ohio, with whom he has lived all these and who still survives him. To this union 11 children were born, nine of whom are still living. Mrs. Martha Hamilton Howard and Mrs. Wilda Hower, of Olathe; Ernest, of Springfield, Mo.; Mrs. Clara Wolfley, of Clayton, Wash.; Mrs. Zella Sloop of Lyndon, Kan.; Mrs. Eva McDonald, of Omaha, Nebr.; Fred, of San Francisco, Calif.; and Mrs. Artie Christler, of Buffalo, Wyo.

Mr. Wood was a veteran of the civil war. He enlisted in Co. I., 7th Cav., Ohio, on September 12, 1862. and was mustered out of service on July 4, 1865. During this time he was in many engagements and finally received a severe accident at Duck Creek battle where if four ribs were broken by his horse falling upon him. He was a member of the Franklin Post, G. A. R., and always loyal to the best interest of his country.

He was a loyal and devoted member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He was converted and united with that church in his early young childhood when they moved to Olathe in 1874, he, with his family, united with the Olathe church of which he has been a member ever since.

The funeral services were held in the Methodist Church Monday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by the pas tor. Rev. J. Willard De Yoe. The body was laid to rest in the Olathe cemetery.
