William Short.

William Short was born on a farm near South Bloomfield, Pickaway county, Ohio, November 9, 1807, where he lived until he was about thirty-nine years old. He moved from thence to a farm near Mechanicsburg, Sangamon county, Illinois, where he remained until1866, during which year he moved to Kansas, first living at Baldwin City, then at Ottawa and afterwards on his farm near Stanley in Johnson county. This was in 1869.  After this he lived a short time in Edgerton, then in Olathe and again on the farm.

In 1892 he moved to Olathe where he has remained until now. He was converted in a revival meeting  in an old brick church in South Bloomfield, Ohio, which still remains. He was put in as a class leader during his probationary state, and has remained a class leader more or less of the time since, taking a very active part in the work of the church wherever he has lived, both in a financial and spiritual way, and was alway very punctual in his attendance at the services at the church, until his advanced years rendered him too feeble to do so.

All his children have been with him during some portion of his sickness. Mrs. Dr. Hamill has been too sick to be with him the last few days of his illness. On Friday last he called all the members of his family to his bedside, one by one, and took leave of them, addressing them by name in an appropriate, affectionate and last farewell.

He seemed better on Saturday and Sunday most of the day, but in the evening his suffering became so intense that it became necessary to keep him under the in fluence of opiates until the hour he succumbed, Wednesday, January 4, at the hour of 3:30 p. m.

 By his death the community loses an estimable citizen.

The surviving children are Mrs. S. M. Hall, the eldest, who resides in Cerro Gordo, Ill,., who arrived Tuesday; Stephen Short of Merriam; I. M. Short of Kansas City; Mrs. Dr. Hamill of Olathe; Mrs. Beeler of Ottawa, Kansas, all of whom attended the funeral.
