The Life of Harriet Elizabeth Ridlon/Mahaffie

Obituary, Mrs. W. A. Mahaffie.

The death of Mrs. W. A. Mahaffie occurred at the family home, South Cherry street, last Tuesday evening about 5:30, following an operation earlier in the day, from which she never regained consciousness. The funeral service was held from the Presbyterian church, Friday afternoon at 2 o''clock, conducted by Rev. Scrivner.

Hattie E. Moore Ridlon Mahaffie was born in Boone county, Ill., August 1, 1858. With her parents she came to Johnson county in 1859. She was married to Chester O. Ridlon in 1882 and lived on a farm four and one half miles north west of Gardner, until 1888, when they moved to Welda, Anderson county, Kansas, where they lived for several years, later moving: to western Oklahoma where,.after years of suffering, Mr. Ridlon died in 1913. Mrs. Mahaffie then moved back to Olathe, bringing Mr. Ridlon''s mother with her. She purchased property here where she and Mrs. Ridlon lived until the latter’s death a few years later.

About two years ago she was married to Mr. W. A. (Billy) Mahaffie. They spent the winter of 1919 and 1920 in California, a trip which they greatly enjoyed. She is survived by her husband, two sistres, Mrs. Kellogg, Logan county, Okla., and Miss Anna Moore, Olathe, and two brothers, W.J. and Herbert Moore.

Hattie Mahaffie has gone. Her husband has lost a dear companion, the church on of its real builders, the world a real friend.  But we can''t think, she is dead, she has just passed over to the other side. Her life will live on in the hearts of her fellow men, for hers was a life of usefulness and kindly deeds and she leaves a blessed memory to endure in the hearts of all who knew her.
