LOST WHEN BOAT CAPSIZES

Commanding Officer Writes Wife of Sergt. W. F. Gordon, Olathe.

Staff Sergt. William F. Gordon, 24, husband of Mrs. Neva Merle Gordon of Olathe, Kas., has been reported missing in action in Holland since February 23, according to a telegram to his wife from the War department. He is a member of the combat engineers of the Ninth army.

Mrs. Gordon has received a letter from her husband's commanding officer saying he had been testing new outboard motors on assault boats when a swift current caused his boat to become entangled in cable crossing. It capsized, throwing two companions into the water, and in the confusion they lost sight of Sergeant Gordon.

The sergeant's 2 1/2-year-old son, William F. Gordon, Jr., is with his mother. They live at the home of Mrs. Gordon's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Riffey. The sergeant's father, A. H. Gordon, lives in DeSoto, Kas. He has two brothers John H. Gordon, a boatswain's mate second class, San Francisco, and Harold H. Gordon, Burbank, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Helen McMahan, Modesto, Calif.
