ANOTHER PIONEER GONE.

John W. Dennis, one of Johnson county's pioneer citizens, died at his home in Olathe Wednesday evening, July 8. Mr. Dennis had been in feeble health for some time past and a few weeks ago suffered a stroke of paralysis. He rallied again, but soon gradually relapsed, his enfeebled system suffering a complete collapse, and for a few days prior to his death, his life was held in the balance by a slight thread.

His sons, Ed and Carl, were telegraphed for last Tuesday at Pueblo and Denver respectively, but owing to delayed trains they did not reach here until, their father's life had ebbed away. His son Will was at his side when the end came. Mr. Dennis was 67 years old, and had been a resident of Johnson county for many years, and was well known to most everyone in Olathe, and highly esteemed by all. The deceased was born at Clarksburg, Ross county Ohio, July 6, 1836. In 1851 with his parents he moved to Hancock county, Ill., and later to Knox county the same state.

Upon the first call for volunteers in July 1861, he enlisted in the 8th Missouri Volunteer Infantry, and later was transferred to the 59th Ill. On March 14, 1863, was married to Louisa Barnett and to this union was born four children, three who survive him. For several years past he has been engaged in the real estate and rental business in Olathe. The funeral was held Friday morning at the late residence at 10:00 o'clock under the auspices of the G. A. R. Interment in Olathe cemetery.
