The Life of Sarah Luella Elston

MRS. GEORGE ELSTON.

Died, Sunday, May 21, at 10:08 a. m. Sarah Luella Elston, wife of George E. Elston, aged 32 years and five months. Interment in Olathe cemetery at 4 p. m. Tuesday, May 23, Rev. J. G. Henderson, of the Methodist church officiating.

Sarah Luella Calland was born in Summerfield, Ohio, December 4, 1872. She came to Kansas with her parents, R. M. and Barbara E. Calland, March 15, 1883, and to Olathe in May, 1838. For eleven years she had charge of the switch board of the Bell Telephone company in this city and a more obliging or faithful employee that company never had. On December 19, 1903, she was married to Mr. Geo. E. Elston at Los Vegas, New Mexico.

Mrs. Elston had been a sufferer from that dread disease consumption, for the past two years, and though pilgrimages were made to Arkansas and to New Mexico in a vain effort to regain her health, and every thing that loving relatives or medical science could do was done, it was soon realized that her days on earth were numbered. She was perfectly content to go and personally superintended all arrangements for her funeral.

Every member of the Calland family - the father and mother. R. M. and Barbara E., the brother O. M. Calland of Kirksville, Mo., and the three sisters, Mrs. C. V.  Townley and Mrs. R. G. Nelson of Olathe, and Mrs. W. N, Allen of Kansas City, Kan., and four neices and nephews were present at the death bed and attended the funeral. This was the first death in the Calland family, thongh Mr. and Mrs. Calland have been married for a period of almost forty years.
