The Life of Henry James Haber

Death of Henry J. Haber.

Henry J. Haber was born July 21, 1897, at Onaga, Kan., and died Wednesday, March 22, 1922, at Fitzsimmons hospital in Denver, Colo., after a year''s illness at that place.

On September 2, 1918, he enlisted in the army and was stationed at Camp Funston and Newport News until his discharge on January 5, 1919. He did not see any foreign service, the armistice being signed just as his company was making preparations to sail.

After his discharge he came to Olathe and on September 13, of the same year re-enlisted and was sent to the Philippine Islands, as a member of the Sixteenth Co., Coast Artillery. While stationed there, he contracted tuberculosis and was then sent back to the United States on March 21, 1921 and placed in the hospital at Denver. Several weeks ago he suffered an attack of the flu which developed into bronchial pneumonia and in his weakened condition was unable to rally from it.

Mr. Haber was a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. John Haber and made his home in Olathe for several years before enlisting in the army. He was a kind, industrious boy and he had many friends in Olathe and especially in the eastern part of the county where he was well known. During the last week of his life, Mrs. Haber was in Denver and was with him at the time of his death. The body was brought to Olathe and service held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon, at 2:00 o''clock, conducted by Rev. W. V. Burns. Impressive service was held at the grave bv the Earl Collier Post American Legion.
