The Life of John Dribel

John DRIBEL was born, like his parents, in Austria-Hungary in 1869. His native language was Magyoran Hungarian (Magyar) which is a member of the Uralic language family. He came to America in his early twenties, going first to Detroit, Michigan, where he was engaged in business for several years, and then came to Olathe. for the past 30 years he has been employed by Hyer and Sons, where he filled a position of responsibility and trust.

In 1924 he was married to Johanna Marie SUNDBYE (b. 1853 Norway, first married CRANE, d/o Andrew and Abigale SUNDBYE). Here they made their home until her death, May 12, 1934. After the loss of his wife he continued to occupy the house on east Santa Fe Street which had been their happy home, but in his loneliness he gradually lost interest in the things which had before meant so much to him. However he did not fail to appreciate the kindness of his many friends who sought to comfort his loneliness.

Last Thursday morning his friends were shocked to learn that death had come to him during the previous night.
He leaves to mourn his passing, two sisters and a brother all of Detroit, Michigan; two step-sons, Arch CRANE of KC, MO and Charles CRANE of Newark, NJ; 2 step-daughters, Mrs. Sadie JENKINS and Mrs. Esther STORY both of Olathe.

Funeral service were conducted Saturday afternoon, January 12, at 2:30 pm at the Olathe Funeral Home, by Rev. Chas. H. Husband, and internment was made in the Olathe Cemetery. W.L. Frye and Sons in charge.
John died on the 9th and was buried on 1-11-1935.

1920 census in Olathe, single, boarder. Head was Anna CRANE age 64 from Norway and also living with them is her son Charles W. CRANE born 1892 MO.

BOOTMAKER A SUICIDE

OLATHE, KAS., Jan. 10 - The body of John Dribal, an Olathe bootmaker, was found hanging in his home here today. Mr. Dribal, 65 years old, had been employed twenty-five years by the Hyer Boot Company, coming here from Chicago. He had no immediate family. His suicide was believed to have resulted from despondency over the death of his wife about eight months ago.
