The Life of James M Curtis

J. M. CURTIS DEAD.

Last Monday morning at 9 o'clock occurred the death of Jas. M. Curtis at his home at 430 South Cherry street, after an illness of a little less than two weeks. For several days prior to this time he had been ailing but did not give himself up to the doctor's care until about two weeks before his death, which was the result of heart trouble complicated with pleurisy. His two surviving daughters, Mrs. Margaret Foggy of Phoenix, Ariz., and Miss Rose, were at his bedside when death came. Mrs. Foggy arrived at 11:30 o'clock Sunday night and was recognized by her father, who only spoke a very few words to her. The funeral services were held this (Wednesday) afternoon from the M. E. church at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. O. M. Bowman, and attended by a very great number of friends and relatives.

The deceased had lived in Olathe almost continuously since 1869, when he with his wife came from Somersetshire, England. He has been in business here most of the time and has been one of Olathe's most devoted and respected citizens, and will be greatly missed, not only by the membership of the M. E. church, of which church he was a s devoted member a greater part of his life but by a large circle of friends and business associates.

The deceased was born in Somersetshire, England, November 5, 1844, and on June 14, 1869, he was united in marriage to Jane M. Master. To this union were born three children, two of whom are still living Miss Rose and Mrs. Margaret Foggy.

On July 28, 1907, his wife died and since that time the deceased has grieved almost constantly over her death, and it is believed by his closest friends that this had much to do with his death. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis were a very devoted couple and their family was a happy one. It was the request of the deceased that his funeral services be conducted just as nearly as possible like that of his beloved wife and his request in this respect was carried out by those in charge of the funeral as nearly as possible.
