The Life of Jessie Ellen Brown

Mrs. Jessie Ellen Brown, 102-year-old member of a pioneer Johnson County family, died Saturday night at the Shawnee Mission Health center. 

Mrs. Brown, born in Knox County, Illinois, moved to John­son County in 1866 in a wagon train from Illinois. She lived 

with a daughter-in-law, Mrs. J. 

Lester Brown, 5711 Sheridan 

drive, Mission, before entering 

the center a year ago. 

About 200 friends and rela­

tives helped Mrs. Brown ob­

serve her 102nd birthday anni­

versary last October 5. She was 

a charter member of the old Mission Methodist church and 

attended Baker univeristy. 

In 1963 Mrs. Brown was hon­

ored at the university as mother 

of the year. All five of her chil­

dren were graduated from the school. 

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jessie LaVerne Dart, 900 Armour boulevard, five grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. 

Services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday at the church; burial in the Olathe cemetery. Friends may call after 4 o'clock today at the 

ewcomer chapel in Overland Park. 

The family requests no flower and uggests contribution to the memorial fund of Old Mi ion Methodi t church.
