The Life of John Jackson Dedrick

JOHN J. DEDRICK.
John J. Dedrick, a former resident of Olathe, died in Kansas City, Mo. Thursday evening and his remains were brought to Olathe Saturday for burial.

Mr. Dedrick was born in Augusta county. Virginia, near Staunton, in the beautiful valley of the Shenandoah, 76 years ago. When a boy his people moved to Rockingham county, Va., where he made his home near Harrisonburg until he came to Olathe in 1881. He has five brothers and a sister still living in Virginia.

Mr. Dedrick served in Gen. Ashby's Confederate Cavalry under Generals Lee and Early and was a valiant soldier of that army. After 1881, when he came to Olathe he resided on his farm and in this city, until he went to the home of his son George, at 422 W. 25th street, Kansas City, Mo., in last November, where he resided until his death. His death was the result of old age and exhaustion. He was a highly respected citizen of this community and was a regular attendant though not a member of the Dunkard church. He is survived by two sons, John, of North Yakima, Washington, George, of Kansas City and a daughter, Mrs Myron V. Phillips, of Olathe, whose husband is auditor for Hodges Bros. His wife preceded him last May in the journey to the land beyond the grave. The funeral services were held at the Dunkard church in Olathe at 2 o'clock Saturday and were conducted by Rev. J. A. Brubaker, of Kansas City, 3Io. All five of his brothers served in the Confederate army.
