The Life of George Lee Hill

DEATH OF GEO. LEE HILL

Particulars regarding the death of Geo. Lee Hill as given by W. M. Scott, Chief Inspector Distributing Line, Utah Light & Railway Co. , are as follows:

Geo. Hill entered the employ of this company, October 11th of this year and worked continuously until the time of his death. He was very popular among his companions and was considered one of the most capable linemen in the company. The immediate cause of his death was a shock while soldering a connection on a wire carrying a current of 2000 volts pressure. The men nearest him heard an exclamation and noticed that he had received a shock, and they went to his assistance immediately. He straightened himself up and said, "I'm alright boys, I'm clear," and added that he thought he could get down without help. However some of the men went up and helped him down, while one reported by phone to the office and a doctor was called immediately. While they were getting him down he dropped limp in their arms and apparently collapsed. After helping him down from the pole the boys worked with him and did all they could to revive him but he died in about ten minutes after receiving the shock and a few minutes before the arrival of the doctor. He was then taken to the undertaker and his relatives notified by telegram. The management of the company, the members of the Lineman's Union and a number of his friends met and paid their last respects to their friend and companion. The boys accompanied the remains to the depot in a body.
